It appears that many websites are still looking for help with search engine optimization (SEO) and the production of original content as jobs related to both fields land near the top of a recent work index.

The August Elance Work Index ranks the top 100 job skills in online employment and a number of jobs related to online marketing – including search engine optimization (SEO) and online content – appear in the top 25.

For the second month in a row search engine optimization (SEO) appears at number 21, with internet marketing rising seven spots to number 7 on the list.

Jobs related to content creation are also ranking high, with article writing coming in at number 6, web content ranking at number 12 and content writing at number 12. The ability to create a blog is on the mind of many as well, as WordPress was number 11 on the index and blogs rose two spots to 24th.

But skills related to social marketing and web 2.0 fell in the August index, as skills related to Facebook fell to 63rd and Twitter took the biggest tumble on the list, falling 25 spots to number 71.

While many are looking for people to hire with search engine optimization (SEO) knowledge, SEO can also help companies hire for other positions. Earlier this year a whitepaper from SharkStrike noted that HR departments might benefit from using search engine optimization (SEO) to help attract quality candidates.
