Some people have a long, winding story about how they ended up in marketing. Jake Bostock’s version is a little more straightforward: He studied creative advertising, worked in marketing at another agency and eventually found his way to Brafton.

Today, he’s a Content Marketing Strategist, helping clients tackle the kinds of marketing challenges that require a mix of creativity, strategy and problem-solving.

And while Jake may describe his current life as “boring,” we’re not entirely convinced. After all, anyone who has spent the last five years working in a fast-paced industry while renovating a house has probably earned the right to call their routine whatever they want.

Where Creativity Met Agency Life

Jake’s path into marketing started with a degree in Creative Advertising, giving him a foundation in the creative side of the industry before he stepped into agency life.

Before joining Brafton, he worked in marketing at another agency, gaining experience in the fast-moving world of client work. Eventually, he found Brafton — “probably through Indeed,” if his memory serves.

Sometimes, the path to the right job is less about a grand career plan and more about finding the next opportunity that looks like a good fit. For Jake, that opportunity led him to Brafton, where he now works as a Content Marketing Strategist.

Finding the Right Mix of People, Problems and Clients

Ask Jake what he likes about working at Brafton, and he doesn’t need many words to get to the point: “The money, the excellent team, the cool clients and the interesting problems to solve.” Honestly, it’s a pretty compelling list.

For Jake, the appeal of Brafton comes down to a combination of factors that make agency work rewarding: helping clients make sense of marketing challenges, developing solutions and working with a talented team to bring those ideas to life.

These interests are particularly fitting for a Content Marketing Strategist. Why? Because marketing rarely comes with a one-size-fits-all answer. Every client brings a different audience, business challenge and set of goals to the table, which means there’s always another problem to untangle. And that variety is part of what keeps agency life so exciting.

While Jake describes his experience at Brafton simply as “good,” his list of what he enjoys about the company paints a slightly fuller picture. There’s the team, the clients and, perhaps most importantly, the opportunity to work through new challenges every day.

Sometimes “good” is all the review you need.

When Home Improvement Becomes a Lifestyle

Outside of Brafton, Jake has been keeping things relatively simple. In fact, he describes his current lifestyle as pretty uneventful, explaining that for the past five years, he has essentially “worked, slept or renovated [his] house.”

Five years is a long time to have a home improvement project hanging over your head, but there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel. He tells us that, “Luckily, it’s almost done.” Which means, presumably, Jake may soon have to figure out what people actually do when they aren’t working or renovating.

Until then, we’ll give him credit for commitment. Five years of home renovations is less of a hobby and more of a long-term project management exercise. Considering he works in marketing, it’s fitting he’s so comfortable juggling a project that refuses to end.

At least now there’s a deadline in sight.

And while we’re on the subject of what Jake gets up to outside of work, we did uncover one supposed hidden talent: “I can walk on water,” he said. He quickly clarified he was only joking, though, so I guess we’ll let him keep some mystery.

A Career (and a House) Still in Progress

Jake’s Brafton story may not involve an elaborate career origin or a long list of unusual hobbies, but perhaps that’s what makes it relatable.

He found his way into marketing through creative advertising, built agency experience before joining Brafton and now spends his days working alongside a strong team, tackling engaging client challenges and helping find solutions that work.

Outside of work, he’s been steadily chipping away at a five-year project of his own.

And while Jake may joke that he lives a boring life, we’d argue there’s something refreshing about knowing what you like: good teammates, cool clients, stimulating problems and, eventually, a finished house.

Although if he really can walk on water, we have a few client projects we’d like to discuss.
