With the release of Google Wave last week, practitioners of search engine optimization (SEO) and other online search professionals saw the advent of a new trend on internet marketing.
Google Wave, according to experts, is a step towards the intertwining of Google’s unrivalled search prowess and the collaborative functionality afforded by social media networks like Facebook and Twitter. Though some critics say that Google Wave is too complicated to draw in older users – who may be less computer-literate than the younger generation – the possibilities raised by the confluence of search engine optimization (SEO) and social networking are groundbreaking.
The new hybrid messaging-and-search product, which is still in limited release, has drawn both praise and criticism for its wide array of functions and uncharacteristically sharp learning curve. Intended as a collaborative content creation application, Google Wave is "an intimidating new technology for less technical users," analyst Steven O’Grady told PC World.
Some analysts, though, are more bullish on the new web app, with Rob Enderle telling Computerworld that "[Google Wave] represents a displacement threat for everybody."
